“You want to do maintenance on your home, make sure everything is good to go,” he explained. “So, we advise you do an annual inspection. Have a roofer come out, take a look at your roof, see if there’s any damage.”
David added that winter can do more harm than most people realize. Between cold snaps and temperature swings, shingles can weaken and become brittle. Then come the spring storms, with strong winds and hail, and suddenly a small issue becomes a big problem.
“Damage usually goes unnoticed for months,” David said. “And it can cause a lot of expense in the long run if you don’t get it taken care of.”
That’s why spring is such a smart time to act — before the intense Texas summer heat rolls in.
Many homeowners aren’t sure what to expect from a professional roof inspection, but Dominique broke it down clearly.
“We’ll come out, notify the homeowner, and take a look at the ground level — your front, back, and sides. Then we’ll get on your roof and inspect all the surfaces. We check your pipe jacks, ventilation, everything. After that, we come down and show you what we found.”
The goal? Give homeowners clarity and peace of mind.
Of course, one of the biggest questions people have is whether they need a full roof replacement or just a quick fix. David explained it all comes down to the type and extent of the damage.
“If it’s something minor — maybe one or two shingles — then a repair would be what you’d want to do,” he said. “But if it’s more widespread, like hail scattered all across the roof, you can’t really replace just one shingle. In that case, you’d need a full roof replacement.”
He also pointed out that sometimes, roofs don’t need storm damage to need replacing — they just wear out over time.
“The average roof in Texas lasts about 15 years. If your roof is getting beyond that, it’s starting to lose its granules and the things that protect your home.”
That said, not every issue is serious. “Sometimes we can fix it with just some caulk. Maybe a vent is coming unsealed,” David noted. “Then again, some damage does require filing an insurance claim and going the replacement route.”
As spring storms roll through, it’s common to see business cards left on doors or people knocking, offering quick repairs. So how do you know who to trust?
David offered a few tips:
“There is no licensing for roofers in Texas. The closest thing we have is membership in the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas or the Central Texas Roofing Contractors Association. I would check for those.”
He also recommended checking online reviews and Better Business Bureau ratings.
“A reputable company will have an A+ rating with the BBB. And look at what customers are saying on Google. If someone had a bad experience, it’ll be there.”
A little research, he said, can go a long way — especially when it comes to protecting your home.
